Many people, regardless of age, experience, or social background, question their abilities, especially when faced with insecurities or unfamiliar and difficult situations. It happens occasionally, but when you are in a perpetual state of self-doubt, you need to look at building your confidence in yourself. Self-confidence is a healthy and positive attitude about your abilities, skills, body image and achievements. People with a positive and healthy belief in themselves and their abilities can better manage daily stressors, handle challenges with optimism and generally exude positive energy.

While many factors contribute to a person’s loss of confidence, you ultimately have control over how you respond to such. Below are 7 tips that should help you regain your confidence.

  1. Practice positive self-affirmations and believe in those affirmations. For example, “I am beautifully and wonderfully made”; “I have what it takes to achieve what I set my mind to”, etc.
  2. Have a self-gratitude journal. Depending on your style, find time at least once a day or week to journal what you have achieved that made you proud.
  3. Acknowledge your areas of development as opportunities to grow and not as signs of weakness.
  4. Focus on your strengths and what you are good at more than what you cannot achieve.
  5. Believe in yourself, and do not let negative people pull you down. Stay away from toxic people and naysayers.
  6. Be mindful of your associations. Hang around people who build your confidence and who provide constructive feedback.
  7. Always remind yourself that you are enough and can get better at areas you struggle with.

Self-confidence is believing in yourself and who you are, even if others do not believe in you. Always remember that you transfer power to what you choose to believe. Believe in your self-worth and regain your self-confidence!
